November is the time to highlight how municipal government enhances the quality of life of its residents and all Marylanders.

Celebrate what your city or town does to make Maryland a great place to live, work, play, and explore. Join us during this month-long initiative to promote awareness of and interest in the government closest to the people.

Promotion of MGW Month counts towards the criteria of the Banner City/Towns program.

Ways to Engage in #MGWMonth:

  • Highlight an already-scheduled municipal event in November

Whether it’s a volunteer lunch, food drive or Veterans’ Day program, highlight the connection between your town’s event(s) and why it signals how municipal government works to support the community.

  • Visit a school -or- invite a school field trip
Set up a date/time for an elected official or staff member to visit a local school to discuss the basics of local government-or- invite students on a guided tour through city hall.

  • Inform the community about their local government’s departments/employees
November’s the perfect time to shine the light on departments, or specific employees, that go above and beyond to serve the community. Celebrate them and show your residents the dedicated people behind their municipal services.

  • Inform the community about their local government’s mission statement, services, events and activities
Use social media, printed materials, your municipal website, or digital newsletters to showcase your municipal achievements. Don’t forget to use #MGWMonth on all materials.
  • Fly the MGW flag

Proudly display the MGW flag* and convey what it means by utilizing social media posts and making note of it during public meetings.

*If you need a new flag, please note that MGW flags are currently being rebranded and are not yet available.
