The Maryland Municipal League’s Hall of Fame honors current or former municipal officials (living or deceased) that have served 20 years or more as a municipal elected official. 

Submissions are now open for those eligible elected officials to join the 276 municipal Hall of Famers who have 20 or more years of service.

We are nearing the end of the 2025 Banner City/Town year. Based on 2024 summer conference and 2024 fall conference attendance, our records indicate that 90 municipalities remain in contention for a 2025 designation. Now is the time to ensure that your city/town makes it to the finish line to receive recognition for your engagement in the League. 

We are excited to announce that all Banner Cities and Towns will be recognized in this year's Closing General Session at the summer conference. At our Closing Session we will shine the light on our most engaged municipalities. Those obtaining the 2025 designation will be provided closing session details closer to the summer conference.

Municipal Tuesday offers a full conference experience in a single day with multiple ways for staff to attend at an exclusive rate It's the most cost-effective way for municipal professionals to attend our conference.

MML’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a city/town elected or staff official with a strong record of service to MML and the cities and towns of Maryland. Criteria considered include:

• Participation on MML committees
• Participation on the MML Board of Directors
• Active involvement with the local League chapter
• Demonstration of outstanding service to Maryland municipal government

 The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at MML’s summer conference in Ocean City, June 22-25.  Nominees can be current or former municipal officials. The deadline to nominate is April 15.

As we prepare for our summer conference, we also reflect back on the memory of those whom we have lost.  The League will recognize municipal officials who have passed away since June of 2024 at the conference as we have done in the past.  We are calling upon you, our members, to make sure that all are remembered. 

This year’s fourth grade "If I Were Mayor I Would..." essay contest winners captivated the volunteer readers and finalist judges’ attention with their compelling essays. 

Thank you to our volunteer readers, who were so impressed with the essays that they sometimes overlooked the fact that the ideas came from fourth graders!

The symposium will be a day filled with insightful discussions, engaging workshops, and networking opportunities. Attendees will explore innovative solutions to address food insecurity in their communities.

Join MML and the Maryland Mayors for our inaugural Advocacy Day as we meet with state leadership, visit the State House, and attend delegation meetings.

The 2025 Maryland Municipal League Summer Conference schedule goes live next Monday, February 24.  This preliminary program will provide timing of sessions generally and, in some instances, for specific workshops such as Academy for Excellence in Local Governance core classes. One thing we can assure you is that this year’s summer conference will be stacked from top to bottom – and Sunday through Wednesday – with quality learning and networking opportunities.  So, plan to arrive in Ocean City early and stay for the duration.

The Maryland Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced that they are proposing an 18-month delay in implementation of Maryland’s paid family and medical leave insurance program, also known as the Time to Care Act (TCA). Key new dates would be:

· January 1, 2027 – Employer/employee contributions begin for the State TCA plan

MML’s longest running ambassador program, the If I Were Mayor, I Would…essay contest deadline is fast approaching. There’s still time for fourth-grade teachers to enter their students in our 25-year contest before the March 7 deadline.

The essay contest is open to all Maryland fourth graders, including home schooled students. Please have your fourth grade teachers visit our website for the essay contest information and submission form.
