Chesapeake Bay Trust is now accepting applications for its Urban Trees Mini Grant Program, an exciting funding opportunity supporting tree planting in underserved urban areas across Maryland. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to help implement small-scale tree planting projects that improve public health, reduce urban heat, and enhance neighborhood livability.

Is there a legislative matter that your municipality, chapter or department would like to see considered as an MML Legislative Priority for the 2026 Legislative session? Complete the 2026 Legislative Action Request (LAR) form by May 31.
Each year, we’re pleased to honor those elected officials that have dedicated 20 or more years to Maryland’s municipalities. Nominations are being accepted for the MML Hall of Fame through May 30. The 2025 candidates will be honored during the summer conference. Self-nominations are welcome.

Applications are now being accepted for the Class of 2026 Maryland Certified Public Manager® Program offered by the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore. Applications are due by July 7, 2025.
The Maryland Certified Public Manager® Program (CPM) is a leadership development program accredited by the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium. The 300-hour academically grounded, job-relevant program requires participants to complete a Capstone Project for their agency to improve a service, reduce costs, or increase revenue.
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and Grant Writing USA will present a two-day Grant Management workshop in Washington, DC on June 16-17, 2025.
This in-person training is for grant recipient organizations across all disciplines. Attend this class and you'll learn how to administer government grants and stay in compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Discounted tuition is $495 and includes all materials. Nominations are now being solicited for the 2025-2026 MML Board of Directors for both At-Large voting positions (10) and President-Elect, all of whom are elected by a majority of member municipalities and announced at the 2025 Annual Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 24th at the MML Summer Conference. Completed applications are now being accepted and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 30th, 2025, with no exceptions.
The spring issue of the National Civic Review explores the evolving infrastructure of democracy and belonging — from dinner tables to city halls. Articles examine how shared meals foster social connection, how local governments are reforming electoral systems and police oversight through public deliberation, and how communities are combining citizen assemblies with participatory budgeting.
Contributors also highlight the civic muscle behind effective citizen engagement, discuss the seven principles for impactful citizens’ assemblies in practice, and reflect on the civic virtue of committing to a place. Together, these stories illuminate how communities are revitalizing democracy from the ground up.

The Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation is launching a new strategy to prevent targeted violence by establishing a Behavioral Threat Assessment Framework. The Framework is a crucial tool for identifying, assessing, and addressing potential threats before they escalate into acts of violence.
This free training is grant-funded and available onsite or as an online webinar. Certified by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission, this traditional 6-hour training module is also available in 1-hour and 2-hour formats for groups including nonprofits, social service professionals, local governments, and community organizations.
The Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) is an independent state agency working to protect Marylanders—and the broader health care system—from the burden of high prescription drug costs. To do this, the PDAB conducts Cost Review Studies to identify medications that pose affordability challenges and can recommend solutions, including setting upper payment limits to reduce costs.
The Board is currently reviewing six high-impact drugs—Farxiga, Jardiance, Ozempic, Trulicity, Dupixent, and Skyrizi—and expects to complete Cost Review Studies starting this spring. If any of these drugs are found to create affordability challenges, the Board will begin the Policy Review Process as early as this summer.
