Engage With MML Through Committee Service

The work of MML's committees is the lifeblood of the League and the best way to play a part in our advocacy, professional development events and ambassador programs.  Each year, members to the committees are appointed by the MML President. The three standing Maryland Municipal League committees are:

Conference Planning

The MML Conference Planning Committee (CPC) serves as MML ambassadors to the annual Summer and Fall Conferences, and annual municipal awards. Committee members promote conference attendance among municipal colleagues and serve as volunteers onsite. The committee typically meets up to six times a year. Staff liaison: Steve Lopes, Deputy Director Publications & Events

Engagement  & Outreach

The Engagement & Outreach Committee (E&O) is tasked with raising awareness about the role of municipal government, its officials and the League’s mission. Committee members coordinate a broad array of outreach programs including the annual “If I Were Mayor…” MML Essay contest and MML Banner City/Town. The committee may meet up to six times a year, including essay selection and annual essay ceremony. Staff liaison: Sharon Easton, Manager Member Experience

Legislative

The Legislative Committee (LC) is responsible for providing feedback and taking positions on legislation affecting municipalities as a whole, and proposing League legislative priorities. The Committee meets often, typically every seven to ten days during the 90-day General Assembly session and throughout the year. Staff liaison: Iris Ibegbulem, Senior Associate Advocacy & Public Affairs

The process for committee service has shifted to ensure geographic diversity and that a broad range of municipal perspectives are represented. There are two ways to submit interest for a committee:

1) Self-nomination - Submit your name for consideration

2) Serve as the official representative to your MML Affiliate  i.e. regional chapter or professional department - You must be formally selected by this entity to serve as the representative to the committee.

Those representing an MML affiliate are considered the direct link between the chapter/department and the MML committee and are expected to keep the chapter/department apprised of committee activities.

Committee nominations will be accepted through May 30, 5 p.m.  If you are interested, please complete the linked form, below.  The form requires biographical information and a few questions about your interest. To increase your chances for consideration, please complete the entire form. It may take 15-20 minutes to complete.

2025-26 MML Committee Application

We look forward to receiving your application and thank you in advance for your interest in MML's standing committees.  If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Easton (committee interest) or Felicia Banuelos (DVP/Board Rep).

NOTE: If you have been nominated as your chapter's District Vice President or your Department's MML Board Representative, please use this form to inform MML. The form's directions outline which parts of the document are required for you.
