Chesapeake Bay Trust is now accepting applications for its Urban Trees Mini Grant Program, an exciting funding opportunity supporting tree planting in underserved urban areas across Maryland. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to help implement small-scale tree planting projects that improve public health, reduce urban heat, and enhance neighborhood livability.

This year's Maryland Municipal League summer conference once again delivers dynamic and powerful speakers:
Chairman of the Special Olympics International and Co-Creator of The Dignity Index, Tim Shriver, will open the conference, Monday morning, with an insightful look at how to communicate within ever growing complex community dynamics.
Effective emergency planning starts with understanding the essentials. The Maryland Municipal League Emergency Management Officials Department (EMOD) will be offering a preview of their summer conference workshop on continuity of operations in the event of an emergency, for local governments regardless of size.

Applications are now being accepted for the Class of 2026 Maryland Certified Public Manager® Program offered by the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore. Applications are due by July 7, 2025.
The Maryland Certified Public Manager® Program (CPM) is a leadership development program accredited by the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium. The 300-hour academically grounded, job-relevant program requires participants to complete a Capstone Project for their agency to improve a service, reduce costs, or increase revenue.

Nominations are now being solicited for the 2025-2026 MML Board of Directors for both At-Large voting positions (10) and President-Elect, all of whom are elected by a majority of member municipalities and announced at the 2025 Annual Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 24th at the MML Summer Conference. Completed applications are now being accepted and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 30th, 2025, with no exceptions.

Articles examine how shared meals foster social connection, how local governments are reforming electoral systems and police oversight through public deliberation, and how communities are combining citizen assemblies with participatory budgeting.

It's hard to believe that Summer Conference is only a month away. As we countdown to #MMLCon25, mark your calendars for important dates and reminders:
The Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) is an independent state agency working to protect Marylanders—and the broader health care system—from the burden of high prescription drug costs. To do this, the PDAB conducts Cost Review Studies to identify medications that pose affordability challenges and can recommend solutions, including setting upper payment limits to reduce costs.
The Board is currently reviewing six high-impact drugs—Farxiga, Jardiance, Ozempic, Trulicity, Dupixent, and Skyrizi—and expects to complete Cost Review Studies starting this spring. If any of these drugs are found to create affordability challenges, the Board will begin the Policy Review Process as early as this summer.
The Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation is launching a new strategy to prevent targeted violence by establishing a Behavioral Threat Assessment Framework. The Framework is a crucial tool for identifying, assessing, and addressing potential threats before they escalate into acts of violence.
This free training is grant-funded and available onsite or as an online webinar. Certified by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission, this traditional 6-hour training module is also available in 1-hour and 2-hour formats for groups including nonprofits, social service professionals, local governments, and community organizations.
