Is Your Social Media ADA-Compliant? Understanding the New Requirements

The deadline for the new ADA Title II digital accessibility requirements has been extended, giving public sector communications teams twelve months to align their digital presence with federal standards. While this extension provides some breathing room, the complexity of moving from theory to practice remains. This session will show how your team can confidently implement accessibility standards within a fast-paced communications environment.

Accessibility expert Emily Lucht will guide participants through clear definitions, hands-on strategies, and actionable steps that can be immediately integrated into daily workflows. This training focuses on building sustainable processes that make accessibility a natural part of your team’s content creation.

This session is especially relevant for communications staff, public information officers, IT, HR, risk management, and law enforcement personnel involved in managing or contributing to social media content.

The discussion will focus on:

  • Key accessibility terms explained in plain language
  • How to create accessible social media posts step by step
  • Best practices for captions, alt text, color contrast, and video
  • Common accessibility mistakes and how to fix them
  • Examples of stronger, more accessible social content
  • Simple workflow changes that improve accessibility over time
  • Practical tools and habits teams can adopt right away

Designed specifically for government, law enforcement, and public education communicators, this session provides a practical roadmap to help your organization foster a culture of inclusivity while maintaining a strong digital presence.
