[ARCHIVED] 2021 Essay Contest – New Guidelines

2019 Essay Poster Redesign

Although we successfully pivoted the 2020 “If I Were Mayor, I would…” Essay contest, we are pleased to announce that the 2021 contest is back and will be implemented in full. We’re excited to continue one of the League’s long-standing traditions, educating Maryland’s fourth graders on how municipal government works and the role of the Mayor.  This year’s theme is: Teamwork through Flexibility, Respect, Leadership and Civility.

Please plan to support our program by:

  • Reaching out to 4th grade teachers in your area and directing them to the full new guidelines at www.mdmunicipal.org/2021essay
  • Coordinate a virtual visit to classrooms to highlight municipal government and the role of the Mayor

The Engagement and Outreach committee was able to identify a digital method of collecting essays, which will include regional Dropbox folders. Teachers will only be able to access these folders once they have submitted an entry form

Information on the essay contest new guidelines will be mailed to teachers early January. Essay submission deadline remains the end of March.

If you have any questions regarding this year’s contest please contact Paula Chase Hyman paulah@mdmunicipal.org or Sharon Easton sharone@mdmunicipal.org
