[ARCHIVED] Community Unrest Tabletop Simulation

The Maryland Municipal League is pleased to announce a new virtual tabletop training on Preparing for Community Unrest to be delivered by the Divided Communities Project at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law (DCP). The simulation focuses on how local government leaders can respond constructively to high profile conflicts, while also identifying and meaningfully addressing longstanding and complex reasons underlying division.  Created by current and former local, state, and federal government leaders and mediators who have worked with communities to understand and respond to longstanding issues of institutional racism and other forms of discrimination, the simulation allows local leaders to develop practical plans to respond effectively to crisis and continue work on ongoing priorities.

The simulation encourages participants to assess their current capacity to respond to crisis and to develop a plan of action to improve their preparedness. DCP has conducted the simulation in cities across the country, including Columbus (Ohio), Sanford (Florida), Oklahoma City and Norman (Oklahoma), San Leandro (California) and with leaders from cities and counties outside of Houston, Texas as well as Ohio police executives, and with leaders from more than a dozen different communities who were participating at an International City Managers' Association executive leadership conference.

The Preparing for Community Unrest simulation will be held as a Zoom meeting on Thursday, February 10, 2021. The fee to participate is $25 to cover the cost of training materials with a limited number of scholarships available.
