Last November, a subset of the Legislative Committee engaged in a discussion with then SHA Administrator, now MDOT Secretary Greg Slater and members of his team to discuss the issue of speeding on state roads through municipal jurisdictions and ways to combat that, especially in high pedestrian trafficked areas. As a result of that meeting, Slater offered to create a workgroup to address the inability to receive speed cameras on state roads within .5 miles of school that do not directly boarder the school and other speed camera problems.
SHA officials followed up with MML at their own discretion this past week to discuss the framework of the workgroup now that the legislative session is over. There is not set start-date as of now, but MML is happy to be continuing this important conversation.
