Thanks in large part to the significant number of letters, calls, and emails made by our members to legislators to express their strong opposition to HB 203/SB 614, the bill that would have allowed Baltimore and Howard Counties to apply for funding from the municipal-only Community Parks and Playgrounds program, the bill received an unfavorable vote in the House Environment and Transportation Committee late last week. Based on the demise of the bill in the House, the Senate bill was withdrawn over the weekend. These actions will put the bills to rest for the remainder of this session, with no further action expected on the legislation. MML would like to thank everyone who got involved to oppose this harmful bill. Your work definitely made the difference and preserved this small, but important program for municipal parks and recreation programs in municipalities across the State.
