Maryland’s cities and towns have always known how to band together for their common good. The effort to inform and assist our members to apply for the State’s Supplemental Census Grant reinforces that fact. With only a little over 30 days to turn around grant applications, the League galvanized its promotional efforts to ensure that eligible municipalities were aware of the funding. We were pleased to learn that 40 municipalities applied totaling $491,000 in requests. As the State rates and ranks those submissions, to fund up to $300,000 in outreach initiatives, MML staff and the Engagement and Outreach committee will continue to work to make access to census information easy.
We ask that municipalities inform MML of their funding status, upon notification by the State. The more information shared across the state, the easier it will be for cities and towns to implement outreach ideas and best practices.
All municipalities are encouraged to:
* Join us on social media every Census Tweet Tuesday to share facts, links and outreach ideas
* Attend MML’s Census Outreach Webinar on February 11, at 1 pm. The webinar, designed to build confidence in census outreach and share best practices will include: tips from three municipalities that have been early starters in outreach, reinforcement of important census dates and updated information on any potential available resources.
There is limited space available. Please RSVP intent to attend no later than February 4 to MML’s Engagement Director, Paula Chase Hyman at paulah@mdmunicipal.org.
