[ARCHIVED] Opportunity to Join US Mayors in Opposition to SNAP Revisions Lead: For your consideration

snapindex

The Maryland Municipal League was recently alerted of a new USDA proposed rule change to so-called broad based categorical eligibility, which would lead to the loss of SNAP benefits for up to 50,000 Marylanders. Over 70 mayors across the country, including Mayor Young of Baltimore, have signed a letter of opposition on behalf of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM).

More information (via NPR) and a copy of the letter can be found here.

Should you choose, instructions for adding your name to the letter are as follows: To register a sign on signature to the letter, USCM member mayors, non USCM member mayors or service cities with a population of 30,000 and above should visit https://community.usmayors.org and create a profile. Thereafter, they will have access to a secure platform and should click on the left ÒSign OnÓ link. Next, they will have access to a link labeled Ò Oppose New Rules on SNAP That Will Impact 3 Million Americans;Ó which they should click to open and register their support of the letter.

All other mayors with a population of 30,000 or less residents, should email jwelfley@usmayors.org directly to confirm their support of the letter in opposition to the proposed revision of broad based categorical eligibility in USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

For additional details, please do not hesitate to contact dharris@usmayors.org with USCM.
