Data collected through the 2020 Census will determine the number of seats Maryland gets in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as how billions of dollars are distributed to local communities. An undercount in Maryland’s cities and towns will ultimately mean a loss in federal funding. For this reason, all municipalities are encouraged to create their own Complete Count committees and make use of available resources to ensure that every one of your residents is counted. You’ll find resources from the State of Maryland, including outreach tool kits here.
The National League of Cities is also committed to supporting a fair and accurate 2020 Census. To better understand how municipalities are preparing for 2020 and to better target their resources to support cities, towns and villages, they have asked us to share a quick survey with you. We would appreciate if you or the relevant member of your city/town staff would complete the survey linked below about your municipality’s 2020 Census preparations.
You can access the survey here: NLC Local Census Preparedness Survey. NLC will add insights from this survey to their growing list of resources available at nlc.org/census.
