Every year, eager 4th graders from around Maryland submit essays explaining how they would manage their cities as Mayor. The “If I were Mayor,” essay contest remains one of the League’s most popular programs and, once again, the Engagement and Outreach committee is asking for help to read through the nearly 3,000 essays received on Tuesday, April 9.
Essays peer into the hearts and mind of our state’s nine-year-olds. Some are comical, others heart wrenching, all are a creative outpouring of a child’s insight into different issues and challenges faced by leaders like you. If you are able to donate two hours (or more) please contact Sharon Easton at sharone@mdmunicipal.org. Snacks, drinks and camaraderie are provided throughout the day.
