The State of Maryland has established a Task Force on State and Local Government Accounting for Natural Capital to determine the extent to which municipalities have applied Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards to natural assets. GASB 62 enables the capitalization of natural assets for the benefit of the public. This survey is designed to help the Task Force determine which municipalities are using the standards, which are not, and what steps the state can take to encourage capitalization of natural assets for public benefit. Municipal managers, finance directors, and treasurers are encouraged to complete this brief survey so the Task Force can complete this important first step in its mission.
