After years of work, the General Assembly passed a comprehensive package of legislation to bolster the State’s cybersecurity posture. The multi-year process included several rounds of input from MML and MACo, the results of which will include new technical assistance, guidance, and funding for cyber preparedness and response at the local level.
HB1202/SB754 - Local Cybersecurity Support Act of 2022
HB1205/SB811 - Modernize Maryland Act of 2022
HB1346/SB812 - State Government - Cybersecurity - Coordination and Governance
We are grateful to the Senate and House sponsors, Senator Hester and Delegate Young, for their persistence and thoughtful inclusion of local governments. We look forward to working with our state partners to bring new resources to our cities and towns to combat the ever-growing threat of cyber-attacks.
More details will be shared via MML’s final report in the upcoming edition of our magazine, Municipal Maryland. Any questions can be sent to Justin Fiore at justinf@mdmunicipal.org.
