MML’s legislative priority bill to remove the FY 2024 sunset provision and reinstate full funding of Highway User Revenues will begin hearings the second week of March. SB 726, sponsored by Senator Cory McCray, will be heard in person in the Senate Budget & Taxation Committee on March 9. Its cross-file, HB 1187, sponsored by Delegate Carl Anderton, will be heard via Zoom the next day, March 10. MML and MACo worked closely with both sponsors to secure over 60 cosponsors. The bill’s supporters are bipartisan and truly reflect the wide geographic diversity of the State.
To keep the momentum going, MML needs you! The panel to testify is full but we still need your stories, pictures, and letters. If you are interested in providing written testimony in support of this bill, please contact MML’s Legislative Director Angelica Bailey (angelicab@mdmunicipal.org).
Governor Hogan has also introduced a Highway User Revenue bill which would remove the FY 2024 sunset provision and add reporting requirements but would not increase funding. SB 400 was heard February 9. MML and MACo testified in support with amendments, proposing that any version of this bill that moves forward should include a funding increase. Its cross-file, HB 410, will also be heard on March 10.
