Currently, public works projects that are either under $250,000 or receive less than 25% State funding are exempt from paying the prevailing wage to the project's workers. SB 259 adds "mechanical systems services" to the list of types of construction that qualify for the prevailing wage if it exceeds only $2,500 and has 25% State funding. MML testified at the bill hearing advocating for that dollar amount threshold to be raised, citing the vast number of projects, including routine maintenance, that would be captured by this bill.
