As introduced, HB 325 and SB 250 would have required State and local government procurement contracts to be paid within 15 days instead of the current 30 days. For the past several years, MML has asked to be removed from the legislation, using member feedback to share that it would not be practicable and would only lead to more interest penalties for large and small municipalities alike.
At the hearing for the Senate Bill on February 2, Senator Hayes offered a sponsor amendment to remove local governments from the requirement of the bill. House sponsor, Delegate Barnes, has indicated he will do the same. The League greatly appreciates the conversations its had in recent years with Delegate Barnes specifically and offers our thanks to both sponsors.
