MML Research Inquiry Program

Inquiry Program

The Maryland Municipal League's Inquiry Program is available to any MML member (elected or appointed), state/county officials, the Press, residents of municipalities or areas interested in incorporation. It is one of the most frequently used programs offered by the League. The League's research staff annually answers hundreds of inquiries from local officials ranging from simple requests for a sample ordinance to complex questions requiring considerable research. Most questions are answered within 48 working hours.

A library and research files are maintained to help the professional staff promptly respond to your requests for information and assistance. League library holdings include all 157 municipal charters, the codified ordinances of over 80 cities/towns and 20 counties, the complete Annotated Code of Maryland and reference materials and treatises.

The Inquiry Program provides direct comprehensive assistance to municipal officials on a variety of municipal issues. Assistance may range from a simple telephone consultation or referral to more extensive research involving considerable time and effort.

How To Use The Inquiry Program

Simply contact Jim Peck or Tom Reynolds at the League office by e-mail, or by calling the office at 410-268-5514 or 800-492-7121. You may also contact the Research staff by U.S. Mail or fax your inquiry to 410-268-7004.

Response Time

The time that it takes us to respond to your inquiry will depend on the complexity of the issues involved and the volume of other research requests received. The majority of information requests are processed within a few days. In general, advisory services will be provided to communities on a first come, first served basis; however, where possible, allowances will be made to expedite inquiry processing when your needs demand quick response.

Cost Of The Service

There is no charge for use of this service by League members. Nonmembers may be charged for any costs associated with postage, copying and faxing.
