Message From the President, Kimberley A. Rau

Greetings MMCA Members,
It’s that time of year again; kids going back to school, football season (Go Skins!), swimming pools closing, leaves changing color, everyone getting back to business. I always feel a sense of a “new beginning” in the fall. It’s the same for MMCA with the reappointment of committee assignments. Please take a look at the committees on the website as I will be reappointing at the September MMCA meeting.

Remember, you do get certification points for serving on a committee. As I write this message, I am preparing for the first MML Legislative Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 10th, and a Board Retreat in Annapolis, September 5-6, 2008. I’ll report on both at the MMCA meeting on the 18th.

Congratulations to Brenda Colegrove and Pam Fleming for receiving their MMC’s and to Barbara Dunbar, City of Frederick, on her retirement effective the end of June. Also, to Tom Carter, one of the nicest men I’ve ever known, I’d like to offer a speedy recovery.

I’m sure everyone saw the tremendous interest in a workshop on records retention. We are not able to have a speaker at the September meeting to address this topic; however, Kelly Allmond is making arrangements for the December meeting. As always, if there is a topic you want addressed please let me know and we will do what we can to accommodate the membership.

In closing, my first grandchild Taylor Nicole was born on August 21, 2008. I am so tickled that there aren’t words to express the feeling. I will have pictures on the 18th.

Kimberley A. Rau, CMC, President

MMCA to Host Region II Conference

The Maryland Municipal Clerks Association is pleased to host the IIMC Region II Conference. The conference will be held at the Historic Inns of Annapolis located in Annapolis, Maryland, on January 15 – 17, 2009.

The theme of the IIMC Region II Conference is “Clerks from Antiquity to Beyond…Rooted in the Past, Growing With the Future.” In keeping with this theme, we offer classes on Parliamentary Procedure (rooted in the past) and Minutes (keeping records for the future), both presented by Michael L. Swift PRP, CPP-T. Mr. Swift is an engaging speaker who brings enthusiasm and wit to the classroom. We are confident you will benefit from the classes and points will be awarded towards IIMC certification for those enrolled in the Academy or Institute.
