Fall Conference Update

 
Last week, MML added rooms for the Fall Conference at the Westin Annapolis for Wednesday and Thursday nights, October 10 and 11.  These rooms are now sold out, however, if you still need a room for Fall Conference, please contact the Westin directly at (410) 972-4300 as they may have rooms open up however not at the MML’s special rate as our block sold out early.  Other hotels which may have availability for MML’s Fall Conference dates include:

Call for Session Proposals: MML Summer Conference 2019


The 2019 MML conference planning committee (CPC) will begin developing next year’s summer conference agenda in early September and would appreciate educational session proposals from MML membership and departments, state agencies, conference exhibitors, strategic partners, and other subject matter experts.

Proposals should include a 50-100 word abstract describing your session, as well as 2-4 learning objectives and names of suggested instructors/presenters if available. You are encouraged to submit your proposal using the summer conference proposal form  prior to September 1, 2018. NLC Leadership Applications – Now Being Accepted

 
The online applications for the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors and Officers are now available on NLC’s website, and at the MyNLC Member Portal. Please refer to the candidate information package for eligibility requirements, job description, and how to apply! If you have any further questions, please contact Carla Smith at (202) 626-3179 or smith@nlc.org. Applications are due no later than Monday, October 8, 2018. This is the application period for NLC Board positions. Applications for all NLC Committees and Councils will be accepted later in the Fall.

Just Announced: Open Meetings Act Training


This fall the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance will offer the Maryland Open Meetings Act core class on two occasions as a stand-alone training. The first of these will take place on Tuesday, September 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Airy Fire Station, 702 North Main Street, Mount Airy. The second will be held on Thursday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Holiday Inn, 2 Montgomery Village Avenue, Gaithersburg. The early registration cost for each class is $10 and $15 thereafter. To register, contact Aisha Washington with the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy at awashin1@umd.edu.

Maryland-Israel Water Conference Coming to College Park This Fall


Topic: Water Reuse and Security
 
This year’s conference, hosted by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland-Israel Sister State Committee, will focus on water reuse and security.
 
The Maryland-Israel Water Conference, being held on October 8-10, will bring together leaders from the Maryland and Israeli business communities, as well as state, municipal and county authorities, and water management and technology experts from academia, industry, and environmental organizations.
 
Conference speakers and panel discussions will address:

  • Integrated “One Water” Management and Recycling of Wastewater, Stormwater, Graywater
  • Chlorides, Pharmaceuticals and Contaminates of Emerging Concern
  • Growth that Outpaces Water Supply
  • Protection Against Terrorism
  • Extreme Weather Preparedness and Resiliency
  • Waterborne Threats to the Chesapeake Bay
  • And more

2018 Mid-Atlantic Utility Conference Set for Late October

Registration opens August 28
 
The Chesapeake Section of the American Water Works Association (CSAWWA) Mid-Atlantic Utility Conference will be held in Ellicott City on October 23 – 24, 2018.
 
The conference is designed by and for utility personnel and will serve as an excellent opportunity to learn and share with you peers. The theme this year is “Integrated Approaches for Efficient Utilities” for delivery of drinking, storm, and wastewater services. Speakers from New York City to Atlanta, Georgia and all parts between will present their unique ways of addressing the common challenges we all face.
 
Keynoted by our own Maryland Department of Energy Secretary, Ben Grumbles, the conference will discuss:

  • Innovation/Technology Rates, Financing, and Affordability
  • Water Quality Credit Trading
  • Emergency and Disaster Resilience
  • Community Outreach
  • Protection of Underground Assets
