First & Main Informational Webinar

Smart Growth America is working on First & Main, a new nonpartisan coalition of local elected officials organizing around federal funding and programs for the prosperity of local communities.

There will be a webinar on Wednesday, August 15th at 2pm about First & Main and their upcoming week of action in September -- Rebuild America's Communities week, described below. There is no cost for the webinar or to participate in the week of action.

The First & Main Blueprint
The First & Main Blueprint was produced with input from dozens of local elected leaders from across the country. It is a federal agenda focused on protecting the federal programs proven to work for local communities, improving the programs that should be more effective, and creating new programs to provide local communities with additional resources. Local elected officials developed this blueprint because it provides communities with the resources they need to prosper. The full blueprint is available on the First & Main website.

First & Main looks forward to welcoming you and any other local elected officials you work with to the coalition! For more information, contact them at info@firstandmain.org.

Mosquito Control Spraying Information

Maryland Department of Agriculture works with many communities across the state to provide routine mosquito spraying services; however, when mosquito-borne disease activity is detected in an area that we do not regularly serve, MDA will spray the area and announce that activity on its web page and on Twitter @MdAgMosquito. This activity is called an "unscheduled spraying."  The product used in our ground ULV spray program is a synthetic permethrin-based product. (See our product labels page for more info.)

Any existing spray exemptions in these areas will be temporarily suspended. People should avoid outdoor activities on spray nights. For more information, call MDA’s Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.

For the latest information about unscheduled spray activites, follow us on Twitter @MdAgMosquito and @MdAgDept
