League Staff Prepares for 2021 Legislative Session

While the Legislative Team meets with Senate and House members to discuss MML’s priority Highway User Revenue bill, they are also preparing for a very different 2021 General Assembly Session. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, both the House and Senate are focused on minimizing the number of people working in-person in Annapolis. There will be very limited access to public buildings, including for staff, lobbyists, and the press. As a result, both chambers will hold in-person voting sessions, which will be limited to 2 hours at a time, with members sitting at socially distanced desks retrofitted with plexiglass barriers. Voting sessions and committee hearings will also be live-streamed for the first time. The number of witnesses allowed to testify on bills will be limited in both chambers.  This new format will pose some challenges, but also creates opportunities; increased use of technology allows for increased access to Members and their staff. League staff is optimistic and excited for another successful year.
