Mayor’s Essay Contest Re-Imagined
The Maryland Municipal League hopes that you and your families and students remain well during this unprecedented Covid-19 outbreak. Back in the fall, our essay contest asked students to re-imagine their communities. Now, we find ourselves having to re-imagine our time and resources so that we offer what’s most needed in a time of crisis.
With schools closed and group gatherings not allowed, under the Governor’s orders, we cannot continue with our traditional contest and awards ceremony, instead we’re offering a resource that can be used to let students learn on their time and in their own space. It’s designed to keep students involved in instruction and learning, by piquing their curiosity about the government that’s closest to the people. This assignment can easily be shared with students via this link or printed out for pick up.
The exercises will require reading and comprehension skills, creative and persuasive writing and mapping/drawing.
We hope students find this a fun way to learn about government. And we’d love to hear about how the assignment went. We plan to share some of the responses on our website or social media.
If you have any questions or want to share especially creative student responses, please feel free to email the MML Team with the subject line: Assignment Re-Imagine
